ARMENIAN FOUNDATION FILM AMONG ‘BEST’ NOMINEES LOS ANGELES (May 7, 2004)— Documentary films from two California companies are among the seven Best of Festival (Grand Prix) nominations in The U.S. International Film And Video Festival judging just ended. “Germany and the Secret Genocide” by the Armenian Film Foundation, Thousand Oaks, is a nominee in the History category, and “Coral Reef Adventure” by MacGillivray Freeman Films, Laguna Beach, was nominated in Oceanography, Fisheries. They both also won Gold Camera First Place awards. The Armenian production is set against the backdrop of World War I and chronicles injustices against the Armenian people based on documentation from those responsible, according to the foundation. “Coral Reef Adventure” follows the expedition of ocean explorers and filmmakers on a journey to document endangered coral reefs. It was produced to promote education and awareness of the health of the world’s oceans. Also nominated for the competition’s Grand Prix are: “Freedom: A History Promo,” by Thirteen/WNET, New York City; “Peter Jennings Reporting: I Have a Dream” by ABC News/P.J. Productions, New York; ; “Empire of the Eye: The Magic of Illusion” by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; “Eye on Kenya: The Masai, Last of the Conservationists” by EMS Films, The Netherlands, and “Faces of Life” by Gehrisch & Krack Filmproduktions AG., Dusseldorf, Germany. More than 1,500 entries were received from 27 countries. The competition, which is in its 37th year, selected 65 Gold awards and 82 Silver award winners. The “Best of Festival” will to be announced June 12 at ceremonies in Hollywood. Members of the International Quorum of Motion Picture Producers (IQ) will select the winner.
