BARNA-ALPER, TORONTO, SWEEPSTAKES WINNER IN FILM FESTIVAL LOS ANGELES - Canadian companies took home six Gold and seven Silver awards in the 2003 U.S. International Film And Video Festival. One company, Barna-Alper Productions of Toronto, won four Gold Camera and three Silver Screen awards. This was the most awards won by any entrant. The competition received more than 1,500 entries from 28 countries. A total of 64 Gold Camera Awards and 92 Silver Screen Awards were given in 52 categories or sub-categories. Barna-Alper won Gold Camera awards in the Social Issues category, for "Margaret Sanger: The Woman Rebel"; in the Sciences, Exploration category, for "Their Magnificent Flying Machines" about the Wright Brothers; in Politics, Government, World Relations, for its film, "Who Killed Patrice Lumumba?", and in History, Biography, for "Uncommon Valour: The Battle for Iwo Jima." Ellis Vision, Toronto, won a Gold award in the Sciences, Research, Exploration category for "The Baby Human: To Think." The Liquor Control Board of Ontario took home a Gold in the Training & Education - Business, Government category. Barna-Alper also won Silver Screen awards in the Documentary category for "From Despair to Defiance: The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising"; in Religion, Ethics, Humanities category for "Come Out Fighting: The 761st"; and in History, Biography for "Bloody Sunday: Massacre of the Innocents." Also winning Silver awards were DocuTainment Plus Productions Inc., in Art, Culture; Visafric Productions in Fundraising; and Corporate Vision Communications in Specialty Productions. All of the companies are based in Toronto. The competition is in its 36th year and is recognized as one of the world's leading events for Business, Television, Documentary, Industrial, and Informational and Entertainment productions. Lee W.
