The quinquennial International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition is the world’s most prestigious and demanding contest for young pianists. Behind the scenes, there is another battle. This one is fought by tuners, who work for the piano manufacturers that supply instruments for the competition. The skill of each tuner determines the timbre of his company’s piano. How many contestants will choose their piano to play? And which instrument will play a part in victory? This documentary turns the spotlight on the tuners and the challenges they face. It’s a fascinating watch for music fans and non-fans alike.
